OVERVIEW

New Direction Christian Church (NDCC) is a progressive ministry located in Memphis, Tennessee. Opening in 2001, New Direction aims to empower all people to know God through life changing experiences from the inside out.

New Direction grew from 60 members to thousands in five short years under the leadership of Dr. Stacy L. Spencer, Senior Pastor. Members step out in force to minister to all of God’s people, particularly the “seekers”. In practical terms, seekers are people who’ve had little or no experience with or those who are disillusioned by traditional churches. The church’s culture of acceptance and fostering God’s love has proven extremely successful in reaching a core audience of “Generation X-ers”, with the congregation largely comprised of members ranging in their mid-30s or younger.

The church brings together seekers across all socio-economic levels – from the homeless and released offenders to the up and coming professionals and community leaders to worship together in more than 30 different ministries within the church, including GED/literacy programs, In the Zone Student Ministry, Boys to Men mentoring, Feed the Need and Prison ministry.

CAMPUS

Nestled in the heart of Memphis’ Hickory Hill community, New Direction Christian Church campus includes a 75,000 square-foot facility, 20,000 state-of-art Youth and Children’s Church and a Soul Café restaurant and meeting place. Sprawled along 22 acres, the Power Center campus is a real estate development with the conversions of a major retail shopping outlet and a national restaurant franchise.

The Power Center worship facility houses a 3,000-seat sanctuary, 32 meeting/classrooms and administrative offices. The Youth and Children’s Building, affectionately dubbed Power City features a computer lab, a 300-seat sanctuary with stage and media accessibility, 13 classrooms, a cutting-edge game room, an outdoor playground, a separate lobby and entrance.

SERVICES

Not restricted to the methods of traditional churches, Dr. Spencer is able to translate God’s teachings using today’s situations, technology, creativity, drama and dance. Less concerned with pomp and circumstance, members are invited to come as they are to worship and learn. Dr. Spencer is well known for using real life examples, even urban hip-hop references, to reach and equip members’ with the practical tools required to live as God would desire.

Reach the Unreached. New Direction is the Power Center in Hickory Hill which seeks to empower the community, city, nation and world economically, spiritually and socially by meeting their individual needs.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

New Direction’s Basic Beliefs are the principles, symbols, and faith stories to which we spontaneously and habitually return to for strength in times of confusion or stress. These are profound beliefs that are so precious to us that no external pressure will force us to compromise them.
